A hydrating face lotion keeps your skin from getting parched after prolonged exposure to dry air and the sun. Hydration goes beyond skincare. The Mara’s heat will elave you dehydrated, so be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day. Carrying a reusable water bottle is a great way of staying hydrated while keeping your impact on the environment low.

b. Bug Repellant: Fight off Tiny Invaders

The wildlife you want to meet in the Masai Mara has four legs, not six. But mosquitoes and other pesky bugs didn’t get the memo. d. Wet Wipes and Hand Sanitizers

Wet wipes and hand sanitizers are unsung heroes of every safari adventure. When you come back from a thrilling adventure, or even in the middle of one, you might want a quick snack. But those hands have been all over the place. With one quick swipe with a wet wipe, you have clean mittens to hold that snack while you chomp on it. A hand sanitizer complements wet wipes when soap and water are nowhere to be found.

Wet wipes are even more useful. When you want to snap the perfect photo of a rhino grazing or the perfect sunset, you can swipe the sweat off your brow with a wet wipe. Wipes also clean up spills, give your binoculars a quick clean and clean up sticky fingers after enjoying a local treat. They are compact and lightweight making it easy to slip them in your daypack.

You don’t want to lug around full-sized bottles of shampoo or body wash on your safari. It’s impractical and tedious. Instead you can carry travel-sized versions of your favorite essentials. You get to save on space and you can toss a couple of these into your daypack. These little luxuries in the wild keep you fresh. If you can splurge on a good DSLR camera, it is worth the investment. A DSLR camera gives you full control over your setting. It allows you to adjust for changing lighting conditions while offering flexible zoom options.

That said, a smartphone can also do a surprisingly good job. Modern phones feature powerful cameras with impressive zoom capabilities. They also allow you to manual control exposure time, focus and even play around with the white balance. If you’re traveling light, a smart phone is a solid alternative. The secret is knowing how to use it. The right settings will get you clear and detailed shots. But you may miss out on the zoom power or the fine-grained control a DSLR provides.

On the other hand, a smartphone is smaller, lighter, and more portable than a DSLR. You won’t have to worry about changing lenses or carrying a bulky camera bag. On the downside, smartphones struggle in low light environments and may not be capable of capturing fast-moving wildlife as well as a DSLR would. Images captured by a smartphone have far fewer details compared to DSLR-captured images.
